Before moving her studio to New Jersey, Calina spent two decades living and working in New York, with earlier years in Italy and her native Romania.

Trained in fine arts from a young age, her practice has gradually shifted from figurative work into abstraction. When traditional forms stopped answering her questions, she began letting materials speak for themselves.

Photographing Calina meant stepping into her process — watching someone transform overlooked materials into something unexpectedly striking.
