The Kitchen Table

When Australian chef Ehren Ryan and his partner Nadine moved to New Jersey in 2015, they saw an opportunity.

A year later they opened Common Lot, a restaurant built around seasonal ingredients, creative cooking and a menu that often leaned toward tasting experiences rather than traditional à la carte dining.

At the time, many people thought a chef-driven concept like that could only survive in New York City.

But the restaurant quickly built a loyal following and became part of a new wave of ambitious dining in the Garden State.

When Ehren asked me to photograph the restaurant, the focus wasn’t just the food itself. It was the craft behind it — the rhythm of the kitchen, the attention to detail, and the people bringing each dish to life.
